Writing coaching for scholars
Struggling to keep up with your book project as an established scholar can be overwhelming. Feelings of shame and isolation intensify with each passing week, month, or year, making the idea of finishing seem insurmountable. Together, we can turn this situation around by reigniting your confidence in what you have to write and sustaining the motivation to write it.
Making a plan
As your coach, I will collaborate with you to craft a finishing plan and establish a writing routine to suit your life. I am committed to holding you accountable to your goals. When challenges arise, we will explore them together, extracting valuable insights to help you adapt and progress.
Learning from the obstacles and overcoming them
You may find yourself starting each week with the best intentions to make progress on your book, only to reach Friday without having found the time or falling prey to procrastination—often productively with other important tasks! Perhaps, when you did manage to work on your project, you found yourself endlessly rewriting, researching, or outlining the next book without making tangible progress.
These behaviors, though frustrating, are common manifestations of the challenging emotions of fear and doubt that surface during the writing process. While productivity hacks can be helpful, addressing the underlying concerns is crucial. Without doing so, the cycle of unproductive behavior, guilt, and shame persists.
Insights to help you adapt and progress
By shedding light on these root issues, they become more manageable. I provide a non-judgmental, solutions-oriented space for you to reflect on and practically address these challenges. Together, we'll uncover the obstacles standing in your way, enabling you to move past them with confidence and clarity.
“When I came to Faith, I was in a bad headspace after several rejections from prospective presses. Faith and I began to meet weekly, and things turned around almost immediately. She has a unique knack for anticipating needs at the start of each session, whether it is mental processing, work planning, or accountability. I felt safe sharing emotional roadblocks and moving through them together. As a result, I became more motivated to write, my writing sessions more productive, and my writing more authentic. I had fallen into writing what I thought a press would want, and Faith helped me get back to writing a project I believe in. After our 12 sessions, I have multiple presses pursuing my book, positive peer reviews, and a manageable timeline to complete the full manuscript. I highly recommend her services to anyone struggling with their writing projects!”
