Article sprints: fast-track your research to publication

Are you frustrated by how long it takes to write and publish an academic article? Or maybe you need to produce a public-facing brief, feature, or report with a quick turnaround? Article sprints are designed to help you create high-quality content rapidly and efficiently.

An article sprint is a focused, collaborative writing process tailored for scholars who want to accelerate their writing and publishing timelines. This virtual, facilitated event provides a space where you can set aside three uninterrupted days—free of meetings and distractions—to focus on a single writing task.

What to expect from an article sprint:

  1. Pre-sprint strategy session

A few weeks before the sprint, we’ll have a 90-minute meeting to explore your goals—what you’re writing, why it matters, and who the target audience is. This sets the foundation for the sprint and ensures everyone is aligned.

2. Day 1: Collaborative planning

On the first morning of the sprint, we’ll use virtual brainstorming tools to finalize key elements:

  • Central argument

  • Key points

  • Voice and tone

  • Article length

  • Target publication or venue

Once we’ve agreed on these core components, we’ll create a writing plan and divide the tasks among the team.

3. Day 2: Collaborative writing and review

As you complete your assigned writing sections, you’ll also review and edit others' contributions, creating a dynamic and continuous feedback loop. Throughout the sprint, I’ll be on screen with you, guiding the process, keeping the momentum high, and offering support as the text evolves. There is also the option to include editorial support and feedback.

4. Day 3: Final review and perfecting the draft

At the end of the sprint, we’ll come together to review the entire article from start to finish, refining and perfecting it until it’s publication-ready.

Why choose an article sprint?

  • Efficiency: condense what could be months of writing into just a few productive days.

  • Collaboration: work as a team and ensure that everyone contributes equally.

  • Guided support: receive expert facilitation to keep discussions focused, ensure timely decisions, and maintain alignment with your target audience throughout the writing process.

Three scholars from the University of Michigan writing a report about their research findings during an article sprint facilitated virtually by writing coach and facilitator Faith Bosworth.

“Faith ensured that each member of our group was invited to participate fully in crafting our publication, pushing us to write with clarity and focus. She has the ability to identify the shifting needs of a piece in real-time and is able to efficiently and effectively communicate those needs to multiple stakeholders. The structure provided by Faith's presence and expertise ensured that, as a junior scholar working in collaboration with senior scholars in my field, I was always treated as an equal participant in the process. I hope to work with her again!”
